Slave Falls

Local legend has it that this waterfall was the site of a hideout that escaped slaves used. Supposedly slaves that had recently escaped would hide out here until people lessened the search and then the slaves would leave to go north. The waterfall is surrounded on three sides by towering rock bluffs and the fourth side (the downstream side) is open and offers a clear view of who is approaching. Unfortunately this site also provides no escape route if a search party did come into the area. This fall plunges about 80 feet into a shallow gravel bed. Erosion of the rock wall behind the fall is fierce as evidenced by the large heap of rubble behind the water.
