Killbilly Cave

This cave was opened for the first time on 4-10-99. It had been dug on a couple of times before and then a concentrated effort by Jerell Killian and Billy Holland broke into a 60 foot deep pit and large room. The pit drops in three stages and can be free climbed with a rope as demonstrated by Billy and Myself that day. A rope and harness should really be used for safety reasons.

The pit drops into a large wet room with a mudslide floor. All sides of the room slope into a pool at the bottom. The angle of the slope is too steep and the mud too slick to get to the water without rigging a second rope inside the cave. We did. Then we were stopped by the pool. There is no way around but it looks like there could be more cave beyond it. We gotta go back with a raft, or plan on getting seriously wet. There were a few formations and a few bats.

Note: Killbilly Cave has been pushed past the water in the bottom room. It is chest deep and goes a little ways until it meets breakdown. There is a good chance that it joins up with a known, small cave located very near, but if so then the connection is lower than the floor of the know cave. 02-15-01

Jerell is descending into the pit and is just about to pass into the second stage of the climb down.

Jerell leaving the first little room and descending past the rock that we just "forcefully" removed.

Billy Holland descending into the lowest and largest room. Notice he is free climbimg with just a hand line. That is also how I got in and out but I would really not recommend it.

Jerell ascending from the pool room.

Mark Moore descending the pit into the cave. Mark found this cave and dug on it first.

That's Billy trying to keep from sliding into the pool. The black part of the picture in front of Billy is the water and if he takes one more step--whoosh--splash!
